St Philips Primary

Music

At St Philip’s, children are surrounded and immersed in music throughout the curriculum. As well as being taught music through explicit lessons delivered by a specialist music teacher, the children are exposed to music throughout the school day. Through the dance curriculum, children are taught how to move and listen to music; this is also achieved during the 5-a-day videos which are used daily. St Philip’s students are taught how to sing a variety of secular and non-secular songs and hymns during a weekly Singing Collective Worship which build up to each child performing a song as a phase at our end of term celebrations.

Our extra-curricular opportunities allow those who want to, to broaden their music education even further. We are fortunate to have a variety of specialist music teachers deliver individual and group instrumental lessons to those who want. The yearly trip to the Young Voices at the O2 arena in London is always a success. The students prepare for this in KS2 choir; students are coached in two-part harmonies as well as other styles of singing.
